In Greek mythology, the Sirens were three bird-women who lived on an island surrounded by cliffs and rocks. Sailors who sailed near were mesmerized by the Sirens’ music and voices and forced to wreck their ships on the rocks. They were not sea deities, but in later folklore, they were presented as aquatic and mermaid-like.
